The sommelier info
From the Haut-Médoc appellation, this 2020 vintage of Baron de Terrey comes from a single estate in the commune of Saint-Sauveur (near Pauillac), owned since 1986 by the MACIF insurance group.
Grown on sandy, gravelly soils, the vines, which are around 35 years old, are harvested twice, mechanically and manually, to ensure optimum quality. Vinification is traditional: fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, followed by 12 months' ageing in French oak barrels. The result is a deep purple-red colour, an expressive nose combining toasted notes with red and black fruits, and a palate characterised by roundness, powerful tannins and a long, elegant finish. The classic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot (with Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot) expresses the rigour and high standards of the estate.
