The reputation of Domaine Bruno Clair has been achieved over the course of its history but also thanks to the exploitation of its very qualitative terroirs, which extend from the Côte de Nuits to the Côte de Beaune. Today, Bruno Clair produces wines from 32 appellations, out of a total of 27 hectares spread over 8 different villages. A great winemaker to (re)discover!
It all began in 1930 when Joseph Clair, Bruno Clair’s grandfather, bought vineyards from Gevrey-Chambertin, Morey-Saint-Denis and Chambolle-Musigny. In the 1950s he founded the Domaine Clair-Dau with his family and then, at his death in 1971, his son Bernard took over the leadership. A few years later, this family business ended, and Bernard and his wife Geneviève decided to entrust their land to their son Bruno Clair so that he could create his own estate. From 2005, his wife joined him in the management of the family business, followed by his children in 2010 and 2018 at the vineyard.
Bruno Clair wants to perpetuate family traditions, especially with regard to viticulture. He therefore retained the selection of fine vine plants made by his father a few years earlier in order to prioritise quality over quantity. Domaine Bruno Clair works the land with natural products and very little copper, chemical weeds have also been banned since the 1990s. In addition, vinification is an important step in the production of quality Bruno Clair wines, red wines are bred between 18 and 20 months in oak barrels and white wines, vinified without SO2 in stainless steel tanks, are bred under wood and on lees for 16 to 18 months.
In just a few years, Bruno Clair has shown his mastery and passion for the climates of Burgundy. Very well known for its Premiers Crus such as Clos Saint Jacques or Cazetiers, Clos de Fontany, its wines in village appellations do not derogate from the rule and are excellent quality ratios. We think of Bruno Clair Marsannay, Aloxe Corton or his Gevrey Chambertin, which impose an assertive style, of great precision and which reveals a beautiful aromatic complexity during each tasting. Bruno Clair Savigny 1st Cru Les Jarrons is also a great success, a lot of depth and intensity.
Domaine Bruno Clair does not only produce red wines, in fact the white (or rosé in this case) wines in Marsannay appellation have mineral, fruity and floral flavors. The nose is sprinkled with exotic fruits while the mouth is delicate, fruity and fresh. A real breath of fresh air!
This Marsannay Red Les Vaudenelles from Bruno Clair is a 100% Pinot Noir, fresh and fruity as you wish, the nose is charming and the palate reveals a superb freshness and a lot of balance. One can almost smell the crunchy red berries! This cuvée comes from a very small parcel, it is a real revelation.
Domaine Bruno Clair is inscribed in these areas of Burgundy of family traditions. The quality of these magnificent terroirs is always at the rendezvous. The plots of Aloxe Corton were acquired in 1993 and give a wine cut to cross the time. Intense, flowery and fruity in the nose, the mouth is generous and silky with a beautiful structure.
A beautiful discovery with this Savigny les Beaune 1er cru Les Jarrons from Domaine Bruno Clair, known and recognised for the intensity and quality of its wines. Once again we are not disappointed by the depth and complexity of this Premier Cru, judge for yourself with the tasting...
In 1986, Bruno Clair recovered the vines of the family on Vosne Romanée on the superb climat “Les champs perdrix”. The work with vine and chai is extremely rigorous and comes out of magnificent Burgundy great wines.
