Domaine Faiveley has been established in Nuits-Saint-Georges since 1825. It owns 120 hectares of vines and no less than 12 Grands Crus and 25 Premiers Crus. Faiveley also owns very beautiful plots of land on the Côte de Beaune and the Côte Chalonnaise. Their ambition is to "reveal the greatest terroirs of Burgundy".
The success story of Domaine Faiveley is not an ordinary one, as 7 generations have succeeded one another since its creation. It all began with Pierre Faiveley, the founder, who ended his life by devoting himself to his business "Joseph Faiveley". Finally Joseph, his son, took over the family business in 1860 to export his wines to Northern Europe. François Faiveley settled in Nuits-Saint-Georges in 1889 when the vineyard was ravaged by phylloxera. He spent his life trying to save the family business. Georges Faiveley founded the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin in the 1900s. It was a revival in Burgundy and for wine consumption, now associated with the strong values of sharing and friendship. In 1933, he signed a lease for land and vineyards in the Côte Chalonnaise, which was bought by his son Guy Faiveley. Finally, François, the 6th generation, joined the estate in 1976 at the age of 25 and considerably enlarged his vineyard. In 2005, Erwan, his son, took over the estate and modernized the winemaking equipment. Assisted by Jérôme Flous, the director of Wine & Vineyards since 2007, Erwan imposes a new style of wines. His sister Eve joins him in 2014, she is the first daughter to head the estate in 7 generations!
"A great wine is born from a beautiful grape, from a vineyard cultivated with respect and high standards", a philosophy that applies to each step at Domaine Faiveley. The grapes are cut and sorted by hand, and only the best bunches enter the vats. For each vintage and appellation, the proportions of de-stemming and whole grapes are re-evaluated. This makes it possible to take into account the vagaries of the weather and to adapt to the ripeness of each terroir. Faiveley wines are aged in French oak barrels for one to one and a half years. Domaine Faiveley has been HVE 3 certified since 2019, in an effort to limit its impact on the environment and the fauna and flora. The viticulture is reasoned in its approach to the products used in the vineyard.
Domaine Faiveley owns land in several parts of wine-growing Burgundy and therefore has at least two wineries, one in Nuits-Saint-Georges, the other in Mercurey. In the first one, the vinification and maturation of the Grands Crus of the Côte d'Or and the Côte de Nuits take place. In the second, opened in 2015, the wines of the appellations Rully, Givry, Maranges and Mercurey are produced. This organization allows us to segment the different levels of appellations and to be much more efficient. The goal is above all to produce juicy, tasty wines that can be drunk young while possessing excellent ageing potential. Since 2007, Erwan Faiveley has been focusing on mastering precocity, purity and greed. He is known for his elegant, precise and very fine style.
