Domaine Les Creisses

Domaine des Creisses is located just a few kilometres from Pézenas, between the sea and the mountains (25 minutes from the Mediterranean), in the Hérault department. Les Creisses has become one of Languedoc's must-have wines, and is now highly sought-after.

LES CREISSES THROUGH THE AGES

The origins of Domaine des Creisses date back to the 19th century. Today, it is run by Philippe Chesnelong, assisted by Louis Mitjavile. This former lawyer took over the family estate in 1998, convinced of the exceptional potential of this twenty-hectare vineyard, which has been producing wines for more than 110 years over three generations. The magnificent Domaine les Creisses is cultivated in a "reasoned" way, which means that it is treated as little as possible. This encourages balanced, living soils that allow the vines to draw on all the resources they need. Grass cover is also used in half the vineyard to protect the soil from erosion. Techniques that are proving their worth in Pays d'Oc!

DOMAINE LES CREISSES A TRUE TERROIR

From stony clay and limestone to deep soil and gravelly hillsides, Les Creisses wine is already well born. Les Brunes expresses its power through soils of basaltic volcanic origin where Mourvèdre and Cabernet Sauvignon grow. Domaine des Creisses terroir is perfectly reflected in the wines: supple, deep and delicious. The way the vines are trained also has a strong influence on the terroir, since the vines are pruned exclusively on "old wood": gobelet Languedocien for the Grenache and Royat pruning for the other grape varieties.

LES CREISSES AND LES BRUNES

Today, Domaine des Creisses offers two wines: Les Creisses, produced on a dozen hectares of stony, clay-limestone plateau. The soils here are deep, giving density, freshness and depth to the wines, as the vines have drawn this from the earth. There's also Les Brunes, the latter considered one of the best Pays d'Oc wines. These are wines with an inimitable style, bright, generous and greedy at the same time. Philippe Chesnelong's ambition is to let the terroir express itself and make a great Mediterranean red wine. His cousin, Louis Mitjavile (as consultant for vinification and ageing and incidentally owner of the famous Château Tertre Roteboeuf in Saint-Emilion), contributes to the success of Les Creisses, which has just been awarded High Environmental Value certification.
