As its name indicates, the Roc d Anglade is located in Langlade, a small village near Nîmes. The reputation of Domaine Roc d'Anglade is well known since it produces wines for ageing, with the appellation Vin de Pays du Gard. Recognized since the 17th century, the wines of Roc d'Anglade are highly acclaimed and sought after throughout the world.
As far back as can be mentioned, Roc d'Anglade already existed in the year 936. Already qualitative for its time, Louis XIV had it served at his court and the estate received the title of Blason Viticole in 1696. The Langlade vineyard was destroyed by phylloxera and it was not until 1866 that viticulture was resumed: more than 200 hectares were replanted. In 1999, Rémy Pédréno created Domaine Roc d'Anglade and is still in charge today. This former sales manager in the computer industry decided to change his life and offered us his first vintage in 2000. His Languedoc wines, produced on a dozen hectares, are recognized for their great finesse and unusual freshness, offering impressive ageing potential.
Roc d'Anglade has clay-silica soils resting on limestone marl, which resemble Burgundy terroirs. The parcels are exposed to the North, which brings even more freshness to the vineyard. The vineyard is also certified in organic farming. The grape harvest and the work in the vineyard are done manually as much as possible. As for the cultivated grape varieties, for the white wines we find Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay and Grenache Blanc. For the red wines, Carignan, Mourvèdre, Syrah and Grenache have pride of place. The young wines are aged in oak barrels or demi-muids for a year to a year and a half, depending on the vintage and the blend. Rémy Pédréno's objective is to express a true identity of place through his Roc Anglade wines.
The white wines of Roc d'Anglade are rare and are among the best white wines of the South of France, no less! A delicious blend of ripe white fruits and freshness, it is unanimously appreciated. Domaine Roc d'Anglade rosé is quite expressive, with beautiful notes of red fruits, mint and pepper. The texture is supple and the liveliness in the mouth will make the lovers of gastronomy rosés salivate. Finally, the famous red wine Roc d'Anglade, of which the majority is produced. You will have to be patient to taste it as it opens up over time, the aromas of rosemary, morello cherry and blackcurrant are divine. The palate is both juicy and soft, the tannins are more and more melted with the years and it has a great elegance.
