The domain
In the 1950s, Louis Bertrand settled in Charentay, in the Beaujolais region, and began selling his wines directly to bistros in Lyon and Paris a few years later, thus kick-starting an expansion. In 1972, with his wife Renée and their son Guy, he took over the Château de Grand-Pré estate in Fleurie, which they carefully restored, including the winery. In 1992, Guy and Annick Bertrand took over the reins and developed Domaine Les Bertrand by buying plots of land adjoining the château, while adopting a more environmentally-friendly viticulture.
In 2008, Domaine Les Bertrand became certified organic. It changed its name to ‘Les Bertrand’ in 2012 with the arrival of Yann, Guy and Annick's son, who introduced biodynamic viticulture and non-input winemaking. Since then, the vines have been cultivated using practices that promote biodiversity and soil health, using techniques such as biodynamic compost, plant-based preparations and alternating ploughing and natural grassing. Vinification is carried out using traditional methods, allowing Les Bertrand wines to retain their unique purity and identity. The grapes are harvested by hand, followed by fermentation using indigenous yeasts and careful ageing, excluding new barrels to encourage freshness and length on the palate.
To compensate for the hail storms of 2016 and 2017, Domaine Les Bertrand set up a trading business, selecting quality grapes grown organically in the Beaujolais region. This micro-structure makes it possible to produce short-lived cuvées in partnership with winegrowers who share the same philosophy. Each cuvée produced by Les Bertrand expresses a strong commitment to quality and respect for the terroir, offering authentic, vibrant wines imbued with passion and tradition. The aim is to produce wines of enhanced purity that are easy to digest and offer excellent drinkability.
Yann Bertrand, a talented winemaker from the Beaujolais region, offers a range of unique cuvées that reflect the authenticity of their terroir and the finesse of his skills. The Beaujolais Lantignié stands out for its freshness and fruity sparkle, offering a fine introduction to the estate's style. The Fleurie Mon Petit Chéri, meanwhile, charms with its floral delicacy and silky texture, a true declaration of love for the Fleurie appellation. With the Fleurie Alice 6/10, Yann and Domaine Les Bertrand reveal a precise, elegant wine with remarkable depth and complexity. Finally, the TripTyque illustrates a bold and original approach, combining mastery and creativity to produce a perfectly balanced wine.
