The AOC Chateauneuf du Pape is the flagship of the wine heritage of the South Rhone Valley and one of the greatest French wines. Black Grenache remains the dominant grape variety for Chateauneuf du Pape reds with powerful, framed and balanced characters that allow to guess aromas of ripe fruit (cassis, blackberries, spices). White Grenache, Clairette, Bourboulenc and Roussanne are the grape varieties for the confidential Chateauneuf du Pape White, which is not very acidic or even soft, with very rich aromas of fruit and flowers. In all, 13 grape varieties are allowed to blend the wines of Chateauneuf du Pape.
The village of Chateauneuf du Pape was in 1314 the home of Pope Clement V during the summer season. His successor John XXII promoted this wine to the rank of “Vin du Pape”, which made his reputation very quickly, especially during demonstrations and meals abroad. Thus Chateauneuf Wines began to be shipped to Germany, England and Italy. Its quality and prestige quickly conquered the whole world and it has been centuries since the Chateauneuf du Pape Wines is renowned and appreciated.
