APPEARANCE OF THE WINE COTEAUX DU LAYON

Officially born on February 18th, 1950, the appellation Coteaux du Layon dates from much longer than that. The Dutch arrived in France in 1579 and very quickly developed the wine trade. They succeeded in exploiting an influential river of the Loire, the Layon, to their advantage for the elaboration of white wine Coteaux du Layon. These wines come from the Chenin grape variety, which is the only one authorized for the appellation. The particular mode of elaboration of the Coteaux du Layon is also what makes its fame: the grape harvests are realized in the hand, with successive sorting and the grapes are harvested in surmaturité to produce sweet and syrupy wines.

COTEAUX DU LAYON : THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SOILS OF THE VAL DE LOIRE

The soils of the Coteaux du Layon are generally stony and schistose, not very deep. They warm up quickly in the sun, which is clearly an asset for the good maturity of the grapes. The terroirs also have clay and silica influences. The temperate oceanic climate of the region allows to produce the best Coteaux du Layon. Indeed, the winters are mild and rainy, while the transitions between each season are quiet over several weeks. According to the soils, these wines can develop different aromas: dried fruits, exotic fruits or citrus fruits. Some even have a very light iodine note... The age of the wine will obviously determine other flavors, beyond 5 to 10 years of age, the Coteaux du Layon already become more complex.

THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE BEST COTEAUX DU LAYON
