Clos Henri Estate Waimaunga Pinot Noir is an iconic cuvée from Clos Henri, owned by the Bourgeois family, winemakers from the Loire Valley who have been renowned for several generations. Situated in the heart of the Marlborough Valley in New Zealand, the estate showcases an exceptional terroir where ancient soils and a cool climate give rise to Pinot Noirs of remarkable finesse.
The Waimaunga cuvée, whose name refers to the ancient ice age that shaped its clay-rich terroir, perfectly captures the full richness of this unique terroir. An elegant, deep and exceptionally refined wine.
The sommelier info
The nose opens with aromas of morello cherry, raspberry and blackberry, accompanied by delicate notes of violet, forest floor and sweet spices. With aeration, nuances of black tea and cocoa emerge, along with a subtle smoky hint that adds depth.
On the palate, the attack is supple and silky. The crisp red fruits are perfectly balanced by a fine tannic structure and the natural freshness characteristic of great Marlborough Pinot Noirs. The finish is long, elegant and delicately spiced, underpinned by a lovely minerality.
The wine is aged for around 12 months in French oak barrels, including a small proportion of new oak, to add complexity and texture without masking the delicate expression of the Pinot Noir.
The vineyard is set across a mosaic of terroirs; the soils that gave rise to the Waimaunga cuvée, composed of ancient clays and marine deposits – lend the Pinot Noirs depth, finesse and excellent ageing potential.

Clos Henri Estate Waimaunga Pinot Noir is the perfect accompaniment to roast duck breast, free-range poultry with mushrooms or a medium-rare tuna steak. It is best enjoyed at between 15 and 16°C after a short time in the air.

Domaine Bourgeois is known for its parcel winemaking, at the time, innovative in the region. For 10 generations, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc have been cultivated on the 72 hectares by the Bourgeois family.
AS A FAMILY IN THE BOURGEOIS WINE ESTATE
The Domaine Henri Bourgeois was established in Chavignol, part of the Sancerre and Pouilly Fumé appellations. In the 2000s, the Bourgeois family expanded their vineyards in Marlborough, New Zealand, and since then offers wine in organic farming. In the 1950s, Henri Bourgeois was seen as one of the pioneer winemakers in the Sancerrois. Helped by his sons from the 1960s, the Henri Bourgeois cellar was able to grow as a family. The acquisition of new plots has also helped to publicise its wines.

The grapes are tasted on each of them to ensure optimal maturity and the entire process is carried out in an environmentally friendly manner. HENRI BOURGEOIS SANCERRE, A REFERENCE IN LOIRE VALLEY
Even if the family remains modest on this subject, it can be said that it has highlighted the Sancerre appellation and that it sublimes the two grape varieties kings of the Loire Wines: the Sauvignon and Le Pinot. Minerality and freshness dominate the white Sancerre cuvées. The Domaine Bourgeois offers us a beautiful declination of Sauvignon blanc with Le Petit Bourgeois, the Grande Reserve and La Bourgeoise.
The other king variety of the Domaine is Pinot Noir. The cuvée in red Sancerre, Les Bonnes Bouches offers aromas turned towards red berries with a lot of delicacy.
