The domain
Domaine Paul Janin et fils, also sometimes called Domaine du Tremblay, is located in the commune of Romanèche-Thorins, in Saône-et-Loire. Paul Janin is the 4th generation of winegrowers in his family, which has been perpetuating these winegrowing practices and traditions since 1937.
HISTORY OF DOMAINE PAUL JANIN ET FILS
Domaine du Tremblay was created in 1937, when Paul Janin’s grandfather bought plots of land in the area of the same name. He started bottling at the property and selling directly in 1952 and was joined by his son 10 years later. In 1967, he bought a new vineyard, "Les Greneriers", which gave its name to an emblematic wine of the estate. In 1983, Paul Janin joined the family business after graduating in viticulture/oenology and succeeded his father in 2008. From now on, the domain is called Paul Janin et Fils, it covers about ten hectares divided between the Domaine des Vignes des Jumeaux in the Beaujolais-Villages appellation and the main domain in the Beaujolais crus, Moulin-à-Vent, Brouilly and Chénas.
PAUL JANIN ET FILS, WELL-SLICED CHOICES
Paul Janin has been trained in biodynamic viticulture since the 90’s because the fragile balance between the vine, Man and his environment was at the center of his concerns. Domaine Paul Janin et Fils is certified HVE Level 3 since 2018, although its practices are, as said before, turning to organic and biodynamic. The old vines are preserved by making the choice of massal selection. Green harvesting is also practiced only when necessary, pruning and disbudding are favored and the sorting of the grapes is done manually. As for the maturing of the Tremblay wines, it lasts on average 8 to 10 months depending on the vintages and the vintages.
DOMAINE DU TREMBLAY WINDMILL WINE BUT NOT ONLY...
Paul Janin et Fils produces mainly Beaujolais wines and specifically on the terroir of Moulin-à-Vent, which is his favorite vintage. He also produces exceptional wines of Beaujolais-Villages appellation and on the Brouilly and Chénas crus. Domaine du Tremblay expresses all the quintessence of its terroir in the cuvée "Les Vignes du Tremblay", a Moulin à Vent made mainly from old vines. This blend is made from several parcels of land (Les Burdelines, Les Brussellions, Les Pérelles, Les Greneriers, Champs de Cour and Aux Caves). It marks the beginning of this adventure since Paul’s grandfather bought his first parcels of land in the "Le Tremblay" area in 1937.
