The domain
The reputation of Domaine Bruno Clair has been achieved over the course of its history but also thanks to the exploitation of its very qualitative terroirs, which extend from the Côte de Nuits to the Côte de Beaune. Today, Bruno Clair produces wines from 32 appellations, out of a total of 27 hectares spread over 8 different villages. A great winemaker to (re)discover!
DOMAINE BRUNO CLAIR, SEVERAL GENERATIONS OF WINEMAKERS
It all began in 1930 when Joseph Clair, Bruno Clair’s grandfather, bought vineyards from Gevrey-Chambertin, Morey-Saint-Denis and Chambolle-Musigny. In the 1950s he founded the Domaine Clair-Dau with his family and then, at his death in 1971, his son Bernard took over the leadership. A few years later, this family business ended, and Bernard and his wife Geneviève decided to entrust their land to their son Bruno Clair so that he could create his own estate. From 2005, his wife joined him in the management of the family business, followed by his children in 2010 and 2018 at the vineyard.
A LESS INTERVENTIONIST PHILOSOPHY IN THE FIELD BRUNO CLAIR
Bruno Clair wants to perpetuate family traditions, especially with regard to viticulture. He therefore retained the selection of fine vine plants made by his father a few years earlier in order to prioritise quality over quantity. Domaine Bruno Clair works the land with natural products and very little copper, chemical weeds have also been banned since the 1990s. In addition, vinification is an important step in the production of quality Bruno Clair wines, red wines are bred between 18 and 20 months in oak barrels and white wines, vinified without SO2 in stainless steel tanks, are bred under wood and on lees for 16 to 18 months.
BRUNO CLAIR MARSANNAY AND OTHER APPELLATIONS OF RENOWN
In just a few years, Bruno Clair has shown his mastery and passion for the climates of Burgundy. Very well known for its Premiers Crus such as Clos Saint Jacques or Cazetiers, Clos de Fontany, its wines in village appellations do not derogate from the rule and are excellent quality ratios. We think of Bruno Clair Marsannay, Aloxe Corton or his Gevrey Chambertin, which impose an assertive style, of great precision and which reveals a beautiful aromatic complexity during each tasting. Bruno Clair Savigny 1st Cru Les Jarrons is also a great success, a lot of depth and intensity.
