Domaine de la Bongran

Thevenet Quintaine is the result of three estates in the Maconnais region of Viré-Clessé: the Bongran estate, the Emilian Gillet estate and the Roally estate.

JEAN THEVENET

Jean Thevenet is a winegrower who has carried on the family tradition since 1972. Jean Thévenet has worked hard to preserve the tradition of residual sugar wines in this part of Burgundy. His speciality: producing Chardonnays with more opulent expressions. Gautier Thevenet, winemaker and son of Jean, joined the family business in 1996 and took over the reins of the winery in 2000.

The philosophy of Jean Thévenet and his son: ‘The terroir is to wine what the composer is to music. The winemaker is merely the conductor.’

DOMAINE DE LA BONGRAN

Domaine de La Bongran was founded several centuries ago. A family property, the vineyard has been passed down from generation to generation of winegrowers and stonemasons. It covers 15 hectares on the land of Quintaine. Emile, then Jean Thevenet and his son Gautier, the last links in the chain and heirs to the traditional know-how, work there with the utmost respect for nature and this very special terroir. These wines are complex and refined, striking the perfect balance between aromatic power and minerality. Domaine de la Bongran (etymologically: good grain, land producing good grapes) has been certified organic since 2008.

DOMAINE EMILIAN GILLET

The wine estate, founded in 1988 by Jean Thévenet, bears the name of Emilian Gillet, a winegrower and ancestor of the Thévenet family. The vines are located in the hamlet of Quintaine and cover approximately 10 hectares of limestone soil. Gautier Thévenet works the vines with the same respect for nature in order to allow the terroir to express itself to the fullest. The estate produces the Viré Clessé Quintaine cuvée, a Chardonnay with freshness and minerality and notes of white flowers.
