Vincent Girardin Chassagne-Montrachet Vieilles Vignes 2023 brings together Chardonnay vines averaging around fifty years of age from Les Battaudes, La Bergerie, Les Chambres, Les Lombardes, Les Morichots and Le Poirier du Clos, rooted in the appellation’s clay-limestone soils. Hand-harvested grapes ferment with indigenous yeasts in French oak barrels before fifteen months of ageing on fine lees, without bâtonnage and with only 15% new oak, allowing the terroir to remain at the forefront. Peach, apricot and ripe yellow fruit meet a fine mineral backbone on a generous, enveloping palate beautifully balanced by freshness.
The sommelier info
A superb Chassagne-Montrachet for those looking for the appellation’s natural richness without excessive oak or heaviness. Vincent Girardin achieves a particularly attractive balance between texture, ripe fruit and mineral tension; the wine already offers considerable charm, while its depth and structure make further cellaring very appealing.
