Domaine de la Taille aux Loups is located on the banks of the Loire and the Cher on slopes facing south. Convinced of the great potential of Montlouis’ terroirs, Jacky Blot has allowed his estate to “create” a solid international reputation by receiving the honours of the New York Times.
La Taille aux Loups was founded in 1988, Mr. Prud’homme cultivated 7 hectares of vines in rent. After a first vintage, Clément Germain and André Chapeau, the owners, entrusted their vineyards to Christophe Mesliand. Two years later, a former wine broker, Jacky Blot took care of winemaking at Domaine de La Taille aux Loups to sign the 1990 vintage and acquired the estate in 1992. After a few difficult years due to the high prices of his Montlouis wines, Jacky Blot began to build up a clientele of individuals and bought an additional 4 hectares in 1996 to expand his estate and reputation.
Jacky Blot cultivates 25 hectares of very old Chenin vines that allow, with a perfect respect for the vintage, to produce wines in Vouvray and Montlouis-sur-Loire. Taille aux Loups effervescents, dry, semi-dry, mellow, sometimes liquorous. This winemaker said against the current and atypical has always resorted to ploughing and manual harvesting on his limestone and clay-siley terroirs, while these practices were little democratised in the 1990s. The wines of La Taille aux Loups are aged in barrels, oak barrels or half-muids of the region.
Jacky Blot is nicknamed Montlouis’s watchmaker. His wines are of Swiss precision, he continues to lead the way while refining his style, whether in bubbles, dry whites or liquoreux, in Montlouis and Vouvray. It is one of the pillars of the growing reputation of the Montlouis appellation thanks to its determination and its demand, which are found in its parcellar cuvées. Fine, racy and chiselled, Jacky Blot’s wines have good guarding potential, such as the Clos de Mosny, Les Hauts de Husseau or Clos du Hochet, Clos Michet. La Taille aux Loups is also well known for its Triple Zero and Montlouis Tradition cuvées, two high-quality effervescents.
