The domain
Domaine Peyre Rose has been established in the Languedoc Roussillon region since the 1990s with Marlene Soria at its head. Since then her rise has never stopped, in fact she is among the top 100 Bettane and Desseauve producers of the year 2019.
FROM REAL ESTATE TO WINE, THE SURPRISING CAREER OF MARLENE SORIA
After a career in the real estate industry, Marlene Soria decided to refocus and move away from the city by switching to the wine business. She settled in Saint-Pargoire, a village located between Montpellier and Béziers, in order to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Her initial plan was to plant vines to produce wine for her own consumption. For a few years, Marlene worked her land and planted Syrah and other regional grape varieties. Little did she know that her Peyre Rose wines would be a hit. Born into a family of winemakers, she was noticed in the 1990s by Robert Parker and the Revue du Vin de France, which awarded her a prize in 1994.
A RESPECTFUL VITICULTURE INSTITUTED BY MARLENE SORIA
Since her beginnings at Domaine Peyre Rose, Marlene Soria has followed the precepts of organic agriculture. She quickly decided to produce wines with very long maturation periods, so that the wines could be waited up to 10 years before the release of a new vintage. The 20-hectare property produces mainly red wines from Grenache Noir, Mourvèdre, Syrah and Carignan, and a small percentage of white wines from Viognier, Roussanne and Rolle. Peyre Rose is isolated from urbanization by a natural wall of scrubland. There are 4 Peyre Rose vintages: Syrah Leone, Clos des Cistes and Marlène N°3 in red, Oro in white. The red wines have a patina, structure and vitality from this prolonged ageing phase. As for the white wine, the ageing process makes it very intense, full-bodied and delicate.
PEYRE ROSE, GREAT WINES OF THE LANGUEDOC
It is difficult to make a choice among the three exceptional vintages produced at Domaine Peyre Rose, a small production highly sought after by wine lovers and unanimously acclaimed by the specialized press. The quality of the wines offered by Domaine Peyre Rose, the fruit of Marlene Soria’s passion, has earned her the deserved nickname of "diva of Syrah". Clos des Cistes and Syrah Leone are both composed of a majority of Syrah. Syrah Leone can be enjoyed earlier in its youth thanks to its velvety and smooth texture while Clos des Cistes will reveal its full potential after a few years. Marlene N°3 is composed of Grenache and Syrah for the most part, it develops spicy notes on firm tannins: an iron hand in a velvet glove.
