The most renowned wine from the House of Louis Roederer, Cristal was created in 1876 to meet the requirements of Tsar Alexander II. Louis Roederer was commissioned by the emperor to set aside the house’s finest vintage for him each year, which he greatly appreciated. To highlight its unique character, here is the story behind the Cristal bottle: the transparency was to prevent poisoning, and the flat base was to prevent an explosive from being concealed, as the Tsar had been the target of several assassination attempts.
