The domain
Arena extends over 14 hectares shaped by the hand of man who crushed limestone rock to plant the vines especially on the Carco plot. This situation brings to their Corsican wine Patrimonio a freshness and a unique minerality! The Arena family owns 3 estates: Domaine Antoine Arena (the father), Domaine de Jean Baptiste Arena and Domaine de Antoine Marie Arena (the two sons).
A CONSEQUENT FAMILY INVESTMENT IN DOMAINE ARENA
Domaine Arena’s terroir has belonged to the Arena family since the 18th century, but bottled sales only began in 1960. Domaine Arena Corse is in the Patrimonio appellation and is managed by Antoine Arena and his sons Jean-Baptiste and Antoine-Marie. Thereafter, the tasks of Domaine Antoine Arena were divided: Jean-Baptiste was in charge of the transition to biodynamics while Antoine-Marie directed the winemaking. In 1977, the family decided to plant the entire estate. Since 2014, Antoine Arena’s children produce their own wines with their own labels.
JEAN BAPTISTE ARENA AND HIS TERROIR GROTTE DI SOLE
Jean Baptiste Arena has turned to the Grotte di Sole terroir, making up blends of Vermentino and Muscat for the whites and based on Nielluccio for the reds. He thus elaborates red and white wines with a beautiful roundness, fruity and powerful in mouth. The respect of the vines is privileged: they are ploughed and not treated. Sheep manure and grape marc are also used at Domaine Arena. Jean Baptiste Arena’s wines are bright and pure. Jean Baptiste produces three fine wines: Grotte di sole white, Grotte di sole red and Morta Maio.
THE TERROIR’S IMPRINT AT DOMAINE ANTOINE MARIE ARENA
The wines of Antoine Marie Arena Patrimonio have an exceptional balance and elegance in the mouth. Biodynamics and respect for the terroir are the key words and in a quest to return to the roots, one hectare of the autochthonous "Bianco Gentile" grape variety has been reintroduced to create an eponymous cuvee. Antoine Marie Arena produces wines in Patrimonio from the Carco terroir; rather harmonious, mineral and complex, composed of Nielluccio for the reds and Vermentinu, Bianco Gentile and Muscat for the whites. The penchant of the two brothers for biodynamic farming enhances the singular character of Arena wines.
