The domain
Domaine Léon Barral is located in Lenthéric, in the Hérault near the foothills of the Cévennes. The 25 hectares of the Léon Barral property are in Faugères appellation. Wines of character and authentic, like Didier Barral, a talented Languedocien winemaker.
LEON BARRAL, THE FAMILY RECOVERY
Led by Didier Barral, who succeeded his father in the 90s, Domaine Léon Barral has made its place among the pretty references of the region. His brother Jean-Luc also helps him in his quest for balance between Man, Earth and its ecosystem. Determined and curious, Didier naturally turned to organic farming and biodynamics for the production of Léon Barral Wines. Its purpose: boost the immunity of its vineyard and highlight biodiversity and exchanges between animals and plants.
DIDIER BARRAL, A WINEMAKER OF CONVICTIONS
Léon Barral Wines originate on schistose hillsides, where weedkillers and pesticides are banned. From polyculture, the vineyard has turned to biodynamics with patches that touch each other, trees having been planted to promote biodiversity since the 1990s. There are also jersia cows from October to April in the heart of the vineyards of Didier Barral. Sulfur is also used sparingly, harvesting is manual and interventions in cellars are rare in order to “let wine speak”. As a result, the Barral cellar is sloping on the hillside and the stones are reused to build the walls.
THE GREAT FAUGERES OF THE LEON BARRAL WINE ESTATE
Well known for its highly qualitative Faugères, Didier Barral offers very different approaches throughout its cuvées. A gourmet wine, with aromas of wood fruit with its traditional Faugères. Domaine Léon Barral Jadis presents itself under floral notes and a beautiful smoothness in the mouth. Finally, there is an exceptional potential for guarding on the Valinière cuvée. A real jewel that will take a few years for a magnificent tasting. In summary, you will find refined wines, with a beautiful touch of mouth and an astonishing complexity for this appellation.
