The domain
For three generations, the passion for the vine has been driving the Matignon family in this 38-hectare estate, with great diversity of terroirs. Domaine Matignon is one of the largest wineries in Anjou.
A STRONG FAMILY FOOTPRINT AT THE MATIGNON ESTATE
Domaine Matignon has been installed in the commune of Martigné-Briand for several decades and has gained its reputation thanks to its wide range of local wines. It is an area that places its traditions and enthusiasm for viticulture at the heart of its practices. The Matignon vineyard is located on various and varied soils of schists, marls and clay-limestones, which makes it possible to offer cuvées significantly different from each other but always by applying its footprint beforehand. The Matignon property is managed as a family by Hélène and Yves, brother and sister, following the principle of reasoned viticulture.
YVES MATIGNON, A GREAT TECHNICIAN IN LOIRE VALLEY
Today, Yves Matignon, a winemaker, perpetuates ancestral traditions with dynamism and passion, with respect for the environment, to which he takes special care. Domaine Matignon mainly grows Cabernet Franc, Grolleau and Chenin, typical varieties of the Loire Valley. The mastery of vinifications is also orchestrated by Yves, who performs a manual deuvage for the reds and a short rearing thereafter. Bottling is done directly at Domaine Matignon. The aim is to preserve all the aromas, while respecting the plant as much as possible, from its growth to the bottling of the wine.
GREAT ANJOU: WINES OF THE MATIGNON WINE ESTATE
Domaine Matignon produces a large majority of Anjou Rouge but also has Chenin for the production of their Coteaux du Layon and Saumur blanc, the rosé and effervescent wines are also among the flagship wines of the property. The grapes are carefully and traditionally harvested, sorted and vinified. Domaine Matignon is known for its cuvée Clair de Lune Coteaux du Layon, a soft wine made of 100 % Chenin. The grapes have been harvested in overmaturity, which gives a lot of character and richness to the wines of this appellation. The mouth is intense and fruity, there are also delicate notes of honey.
