CHARLES HEIDSIECK, A CHARISMATIC BUSINESSMAN

Charles Heidsieck was a colorful character, drawing on the experience of his great uncle who founded his Champagne house decades before him. At just 29, he decided to take the plunge and founded his own house in Reims in 1851, which still bears his name today. Having purchased a large number of crayères, he soon began to develop his own wine-making and ageing processes. This daring young man flew to America in 1852 and made his mark with the country’s elite, who renamed him "Champagne Charlie". As a result, the Charles Heidsieck Champagne House became one of the first to export its products, supplying a number of European royal courts. In 2011, the House was handed over to the Descours family, whose sole ambition is to take it to the top.

IN THE CELLARS OF CHAMPAGNE CHARLES HEIDSIECK...

The Charles Heidsieck vineyard covers some 60 hectares in the Marne and Aube regions, where Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grow, each bringing their own typicity and nobility to the house’s champagnes. Charles Heidsieck holds Viticulture Durable and Haute Valeur Environnementale certifications, guaranteeing its commitment to biodiversity and its cultivation practices. Depth and smoothness. These words take on their full meaning as Maison Charles Heidsieck vinifies vintage by vintage, grape variety by grape variety. The demand for delicacy is evident at every stage. The crayères acquired by Charles in 1867 enable bottles to be aged for extended periods, from 4 to 40 years. The cellar masters at Champagne Heidsieck are among the most renowned, and have been voted "Best Sparkling Wine Cellar Master of the Year" 12 times in 20 years by the prestigious Wine Challenge.

Charles Heidsieck unveils its finest cuvée only during great vintages (currently 7), created from 5 magnificent Côte des Blancs terroirs.
