PATRICK BAUDOUIN WINE ESTATE OPENS ITS DOORS TO US...
Domaine Patrick Baudouin was born in 1920 thanks to his grandparents, Louis and Maria Juby Angevins of origin. They inherited a plot at Saint Aubin de Luigné and rented others. The plots were set aside when Patrick Baudouin took over the family farm in 1990, so he worked to clean everything up. From 1994, he no longer chaptalised the wines of the estate. Then, in 2001, he stopped using all synthetic products and began his conversion to organic farming the following year. In 2008, Patrick Baudouin collaborated with the Group Union Harmonie Mutualité and Arceau Anjou to help him with the vine.
PATRICK BAUDOUIN, AN ACTIVIST WINEMAKER
Patrick Baudouin began extensive soil tillage in 1997, sulphur is also limited to minimum doses in order to stay as close as possible to grape juice without any additions of any kind. From the beginning, Patrick Baudouin stands out for his bold choices and his strong convictions. His association with a mutual in 2008 allows him to obtain more financial means to invest in high quality cellar equipment and thus significantly increase the quality of his wines. Patrick Baudouin wines are becoming more and more known, until they receive excellent notes from the one and only Robert Parker since his 2010 vintage.
WINES OF LOIRE BAUDOUIN: ANJOU, SAVENNIERES AND COTEAUX DU LAYON
Patrick Baudouin produces several types of wines, including Anjou red and white, dry and semi-dry wines, sweet wines such as Coteaux du Layon... His white Anjou, like Effusion and Le Cornillard, are full of freshness, lively but structured in the mouth. Domaine Patrick Baudouin also works wonders with its red Anjous, the cuvée Les Coteaux d’Ardenay has complexity, a beautiful length and a soft and velvety touch of mouth. Its 1896 cuvée offers a completely different dimension, since it refers to the founding year of an association called “the union of anti-sugars”: a Coteaux du Layon carrying strong values and a strong character. To be enjoyed absolutely. Finally, grilled notes, a saline finish and a concentration as well as a tremendous generosity on this Savennieres Patrick Baudouin.
