The domain
Domaine d’Alzipratu is a Corsican wine located in the North-West of Corsica, in Balagne, near Calvi. The vineyard benefits from a climatic influence coming from the sea but also from the mountains, more precisely from Monte Grossu (highest point 1950 meters). Alzipratu is a leader in Balagne thanks to its well-balanced wines.
DOMAINE ALZIPRATU: ACQUAVIVA AND THE BARN AT THE ORIGINS
Alzipratu was created in the 1960s by Baron Henry Louis de La Grange, who owned the Alzipratu convent at the time. Maurice Acquaviva also ran the estate from 1992, before being taken over by his son Pierre Acquaviva and his wife Cecilia. It is from 1996 that the Acquaviva family really acquired the Domain, helped by Vincent Grepin, their cellar master. Alzipratu is composed of 40 hectares divided into two parts: one part to the north and another to the west. The terroir is based on granite arena soils.
AUTOCHTHONOUS CORSICAN GRAPE VARIETIES
The grape varieties of Domaine Alzipratu are for the most part typically Corsican. Selected for their racy character and their particularities, they allow the elaboration of the famous Alzipratu vintages. The finesse and dark color of the Nielluccio, the peppery and marked scents of the Sciaccarello and finally, the elegance and the red fruit aromas of the Grenache make up the Reds. The floral bouquet and the strength of the Vermentino as well as the soft and greedy notes of the Bianco gentile enter the assembly of the Whites of Calvi. The rosés are true terroir rosés.
DOMAINE D’ALZIPRATU: CORSICAN WINE FROM CALVI
For several years, the reputation of Domaine d’Alzipratu has been growing and it is now one of the most qualitative Corsican domains. Pierre Acquaviva produces wines with a lot of finesse and minerality, creating wines with the appellation Vin de Calvi. There are several very interesting vintages, including Alzipratu Fiumeseccu and Pumonte. The FiumeSeccu white wine stands out thanks to its balance, while the Pumonte white shines by its greedy and salty side. The Domain also presents very perfumed and fresh rosé wines, as well as reds that are frank in the mouth.
