Domaine de La Butte is an exceptional vineyard overlooking the alluvionary plains of the Loire Valley. Jacky Blot owns 14 hectares of a single stand on the most beautiful hillsides of Bourgueil, due south at the edge of a forest that protects him from frosts. An exceptional area that quickly became one of the regional references.
Taken over in 2002 by Jacky Blot, also owner of the famous Domaine la Taille aux Loups in Montlouis-sur-Loire, this estate produces very high quality Bourgueil wines. As an outstanding winemaker, Jacky Blot has decided to offer parcellar cuvées, whose taste style follows the meaning of the appellation’s hillsides. This makes it possible to better differentiate and highlight the diversity of terroirs of Domaine de la Butte Bourgueil, on very limestone soils but also composed of tuffeau, a soil typical of the region mixing chalk and sand.
From the beginning of the Domaine de la Butte Bourgueil, Jacky Blot has made a point of honor to produce local wines, unique in their genre. The elevation, unusual in the area, is home to an immense cellar dug into the rock. The farms, made in concrete tanks or wood, are perfectly adapted and Jacky Blot wines offer a contemporary and very successful face of the different expressions of Bourgueil wines. In fact, yields are very limited in the vineyards, sorting and harvesting are manual, while vines of 40 years on average are grown in organic farming.
Jacky Blot offers several high-flight parcellar cuvées at Domaine de la Butte Bourgueil: especially Le Haut de la Butte, which has a lot of freshness and well melted tannins, on the same hillside Mi-Pente has more material in the mouth, a nice structure and a nice length. Le Pied de la Butte is a naturally fruity, rich and suave cuvée with simplicity. Other cuvées were then born at Domaine de la Butte, including Les Perrières, an intense and fruity Loire wine with a mineral touch on the finish and Les Coteaux du Levant, an expressive cuvée with roundness in the mouth due to its south exposure.
