Domaine de la Janasse is much more than a winery: it has become a benchmark in the Southern Rhône Valley! 

DOMAINE DE LA JANASSE, A FAMILY ESTATE

In 1967, Aimé Sabon took over his father's vineyards, which until then had been run by the cooperative and the négociant. He built his own winery at "La Janasse", giving birth to Domaine la Janasse, named after the family farm in Courthézon in 1973. La Janasse vineyard, originally 15 ha in size, now covers 90 ha and is run by the Sabon family, who are constantly acquiring new plots to preserve their terroir. The children, Christophe Sabon and Isabelle Sabon, have now taken over the running of La Janasse.

GRAPE VARIETIES OF EXCELLENCE AT DOMAINE DE JANASSE

Domaine de la Janasse is one of the jewels in the crown of Châteauneuf du Pape. The wine estate operates according to 4 rules: reasoned vineyard management, well thought-out and qualitative distribution, respect for the environment, and vinification and ageing in harmony with the terroir. At La Janasse, the Syrah and white grape varieties are planted on northeast-facing sandy-limestone soils to preserve the freshness and late ripeness of the grapes. Mourvèdre, for its part, grows on rounded pebbles that capture the sun's heat during the day and release it to the vines at night. Grenache, the king of grape varieties, is grown in the majority.

CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE, AN EXCEPTIONAL TERROIR FOR LA JANASSE

Today, Domaine La Janasse produces Chateauneuf du Pape wines of rare quality, predominantly Grenache. La Janasse wines are fine, well-balanced and serious, with great depth and a fine transcription of the terroir. The scattering of plots enables us to produce original, top-quality cuvées such as Domaine de la Janasse Terre d'Argile or Domaine de La Janasse Terre de Bussiere. However, our biggest favorites are La Janasse Chateauneuf du Pape Chaupin and La Janasse Vieilles Vignes!

Domaine de la Janasse uses integrated viticulture to limit the use of chemicals and weedkillers.
