The domain

Discover an illustrious area of Bandol, with Chateau Pradeaux still today in the Portalis family. The great rosé and red wines of Bandol of Château Pradeaux have shaped its fame since the 18th century.

PORTALIS AND CHATEAU PRADEAUX FAMILY, A DESTINY TIGHTLY LINKED

Jean-Etienne-Marie Portalis inherited Chateau Pradeaux in 1752. The vineyard was affected by the phylloxera in the 19th century, then quickly replanted until the arrival, in 1939, of Suzanne and his daughter Arlette Portalis. These two women settled at Château Pradeaux after fleeing the Nazis and will greatly contribute to the renewal of the property. Arlette became a winegrower by the force of things and helped create the Bandol appellation in 1941, accompanied by Pierre Le Roy de Boiseaumarié, the co-founder of INAO. Cyrille Portalis, her nephew, will take over the company in 1982. He passed his passion for Mourvèdre and the wines of Bandol Chateau Pradeaux to his sons, Etienne and Edouard, the 9th generation still in place to this day.

CHÂTEAU PRADEAUX AND ITS LOCAL PECULIARITIES

Chateau Pradeaux has a vineyard of about twenty hectares of a single tenant, something rare for the Bandol appellation. Located between hills and sea, it rests on very deep clay-limestone soils. We find at Château Pradeaux mainly Mourvèdre which needs to push “foots in the water, head in the sun” as well as Grenache, Cinsault, Carignan, Counoise and Barbarossa. The wines of Bandol Chateau Pradeaux have been produced through organic practices since always, although the estate is in conversion to obtain the label recently. The philosophy of biodynamics is also part of the field.

THE GREAT WINES OF BANDOL CHATEAU PRADEAUX

The wines of Château Pradeaux carry a strong family history. First, the emblematic Chateau Pradeaux red is made 90-95 % Mourvèdre, the rest being composed of old Grenache vines. It is aged for 4 years in old lightning, it is a wine of guard that reveals itself a little more each year for great emotions guaranteed. The cuvée Le Lys is the second wine of the estate, which can be consumed in its youth because it is a little less concentrated while remaining deliciously fruity. Undergrowth farming is practiced on this nectar from young vines. Discover also the Chateau Pradeaux rosé, from old vineyards of Mourvèdre and Cinsault. Refined but powerful, subtle but generous, it is a real rosé of gastronomy to drink now or to wait a little longer...
