The domain

Château Fontcreuse is renowned for its traditional viticulture, meticulous soil cultivation and green harvesting, enabling it to produce high-quality Cassis wines. With its north-facing exposure, Fontcreuse enjoys ideal conditions for producing Cassis white wines in Provence.

THE HISTORY OF CHATEAU FONTCREUSE

Chateau de Fontcreuse is a building dating back to 1700, located in Cassis at the foot of the Couronne de Charlemagne, about 20 km from Marseille. In 1922, Colonel Teed discovered and fell in love with the town of Cassis, bought Chateau Fontcreuse and devoted himself entirely to viticulture. After much hard work, he produced a great white wine that would make Fontcreuse famous. In 1987, Jean François Brando took over Château de Fontcreuse and worked passionately to combine terroir and tradition.

FONTCREUSE IN FIGURES

The Fontcreuse estate covers 38 hectares, 26 of which are in the Cassis appellation, and produces Cassis Blanc, Cassis Rosé and Cassis Rouge PGI wines. Today, Château de Fontcreuse is renowned for its Cassis white wine. After raising the estate to a very high level of quality, Jean-François Brando decided to also produce a white wine in the Côtes de Provence appellation. The grapes are harvested by hand. All wines have been organic since the 2017 vintage.

CASSIS BLANC FOCUS ON THE APPELLATION

The Cassis appellation was the first to be created in 1936. Today, it covers just over 200 hectares in the town of Cassis alone. Only 12 estates benefit from the appellation, including Fontcreuse. The dominant grape varieties are Marsanne and Clairette, unlike other Provence whites, which are mainly made from Rolle. Cassis wines also have a very specific terroir composed of limestone rich in iron oxide. Finally, the climate is also favourable for the production of great wines.
