This Old Marc by Domaine de Pibarnon is a rare and precious grape marc spirit, made from Mourvèdre grape marc from the famous Bandol terroir. Distilled in 1998 and then slowly aged in small oak barrels, it offers a deep and distinguished aromatic profile, blending Provençal garrigue, dried fruit, blond tobacco, and sweet spices. A cuvée with character, ideal for lovers of authentic Mediterranean spirits.

The sommelier info

Produced by the prestigious Domaine de Pibarnon, located in the hills above Bandol, this Old Marc embodies the richness of an exceptional terroir and the expertise of an iconic estate in Provence's wine-growing region. The nose is intense and subtle, revealing aromas of dry garrigue, blond tobacco, dried fruit (figs, almonds), patinated leather, and sweet spices. On the palate, the texture is full-bodied, warm, and persistent, carried by a mellow texture and perfectly integrated woody notes. This marc offers a rare expression of the Mediterranean, combining controlled power and rustic elegance.

Made from Mourvèdre marc destemmed using the Burgundy method, this marc is distilled immediately after vinification in a small copper still heated over a wood fire. Only the purest and most aromatic part of the distillate, known as the “heart,” is kept. The resulting eau-de-vie is then aged for over 25 years in 418-liter oak barrels, most of which are new, made by an Armagnac cooper. This long aging in wood, without any additives or filtration, develops a rare aromatic complexity and a subtle rancio, the signature of patient, artisanal expertise.

Produced in very small quantities, it is intended to be saved for an exceptional tasting, like a true collector's item!

The domain

In 1978, Henri and Catherine de Saint-Victor acquired the Chateau de Pibarnon and carried out a titanic work. For nearly 20 years, Domaine de Pibarnon has been presided over by Eric de Saint Victor. The domaine has risen to a level of perfection that goes far beyond the scope of its name. Planted in terraces at an altitude of 300 meters, the vineyards of Chateau Pibarnon enjoy a micro-climate and a real capacity to keep water. As a result, Pibarnon vines are continuously irrigated thanks to the limestone soils that prevent erosion of the plots and keep the water like sponges.

Eric de Saint Victor Chateau Pibarnon

Château de Pibarnon offers wines with the power, the sharpness and the elegance. These Bandol wines are developed for the greater part with Mourvèdre, vine king. The vineyard extends over about fifty hectares and wines are present in France but also abroad. This geologic particularity gives fine and squeezy tannins, complexe and powerful bouquets, keeping elegance, balance and delicacy.
