Le Paternel Esprit de Famille Red elegantly embodies the spirit of Bandol’s great wines. Grown in an exceptional Mediterranean terroir swept by sea mist, this age-worthy red reveals an intense and refined expression of Mourvèdre, the appellation’s iconic grape variety.
With this cuvée, the Paternel family has created a wine that is powerful, structured and remarkably balanced, underpinned by a lovely natural freshness.
The sommelier info
Located in the heart of the Bandol appellation, Domaine Paternel has been passing down a family tradition deeply rooted in its terroir for several generations.
The nose reveals a beautiful aromatic intensity centred on ripe black fruits, candied cherry and wild blackberry. Notes of garrigue, thyme, black pepper and liquorice then enrich the whole with great elegance.
On the palate, the wine offers a full-bodied and generous texture supported by fine, perfectly controlled tannins. The balance between Mediterranean power and freshness brings great precision to the tasting experience. The long, lingering finish reveals spicy, smoky and slightly roasted notes.

The domain
The history of Domaine du Paternel began in 1943. Catherine, Jeanne and Antoine Santini (siblings) became owners of agricultural land. With the help of Pierre Cathinaud (Catherine's husband), Paternel gradually developed and the first harvest took place in 1951. Taken over by Jean-Pierre Santini and his wife in 1962, Domaine Paternel expanded and began its rise to prominence.
Today, three of their children work with them. They all share the same passion and love for their wines and their estate.
Domaine du Paternel is a Provence wine produced in three appellations: Cassis, Côtes-de-Provence and Bandol.
Domaine Paternel Cassis covers 50 hectares classified as Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée Cassis. It is located within the Calanques National Park. It has been certified organic, from vine to wine, since 2012. Paternel blanc is the benchmark for white Cassis wines.
In 2016, the Santini family decided to expand and purchased around fifteen hectares of vineyards near Saint Cyr Sur Mer (about fifteen kilometres from Cassis). The wines produced on this new estate are classified as Côtes de Provence. The idea here is to produce a Paternel rosé and a Paternel with more fruitiness! To complete the range, a Grand Bandol red was missing: the Paternel Bandol Rouge. Now it's done!

At Paternel, respect for the terroir and the desire to reveal its truest expression are essential. In managing the vineyard, particular attention is paid to respecting the environment. Traditional ploughing of the vines is favoured. No insecticides are used. The vines are cultivated using traditional methods and are constantly cared for. The result of such meticulous attention? Paternel is undoubtedly one of the leading estates in the Cassis appellation!
